How much energy does an electric bike battery consume?

Electric bicycle batteries have an average capacity to store energy between 13 Ah and 21 Ah. An amp-hour represents the amount of electricity that can be supplied by a battery for one hour when discharged at a constant current of one amp.

The energy spent therefore depends on the capacity of the battery initially but also on the model of bike, the engine and many other external factors which can influence the average consumption of the battery.

Among these factors we find:

  • the outside temperature
  • the roads taken,
  • the frequency of use,
  • the weight of the user,
  • the level of assistance used,
  • the age of the battery,
  • driving style...

How much does an electric bike cost in electricity?

The cost of charging an electric bike depends on its voltage and capacity.

Regarding Yuvy we can distinguish:

Taking into account the price per kWh during the week or weekend and the consumption of the charge, here are the different costs of charging a battery:

Price per kWh per week 0.27 € incl. VAT
Price per kWh on weekends 0.21 € incl. VAT

Yuvy standard battery

Load consumption 0.624 kWh
Week Load price 0.17 € incl. VAT
Price 100 km 0.28 € incl. VAT
Weekend Load price 0.13 € incl. VAT
Price 100 km 0.21 € incl. VAT

Yuvy long distance battery

Load consumption 1.008 kWh
Week Load price 0.27 € incl. VAT
Price 100 km 0.39 € incl. VAT
Weekend Load price 0.21 € incl. VAT
Price 100 km 0.30 € incl. VAT

Charging an electric bike battery therefore costs:

  • between 13 and 27 cents for a full charge
  • between 22 and 39 cents per 100 km

Comparison with other means of individual transport

    Electric car

    Electric car model Zoe
    battery 52 kWh
    autonomy 343 km

    Load consumption 52 kWh
Week Load price 14.04 € incl. VAT
    Price 100 km 4.09 € incl. VAT
Weekend Load price 10.75 € incl. VAT
    Price 100 km 3.13 € incl. VAT

    Charging an electric car costs:

    • between 10 and 14 € per charge
    • between 4 and 3 € per 100 km

    Combustion vehicles

    Price SP95 1,869 €/L
    Price SP98 1,897 €/L
    Price E85 0.907 €/L
    Diesel Price 1.82 €/L

    At 100 km:

    • A Clio type car (4.7 L / 100 km) consumes, depending on the type of fuel, between €4.2 and €8.9
    • A BMW R1200 GS type motorcycle (6.4 L / 100 km) consumes, depending on the type of fuel, between €5.8 and €12
    • A Booster Spirit 50 type scooter (3.5 L / 100 km) consumes, depending on the type of fuel, between €3.2 and €6.6

How to optimize the battery consumption of an electric bike?

The electric bicycle is therefore the means of individual transport which consumes the least and whose cost of use is the lowest.

Here are some tips if you want to save even more energy:

Use suitable assistance modes: Some electric bikes offer different assistance modes, such as eco mode, standard mode and sport mode. Use the appropriate support mode based on your needs. Eco mode generally uses less power than more powerful modes.

Pedal Efficiently: Pedaling efficiently can reduce the load on the battery. Try to maintain a constant pedaling cadence and use appropriate gears to avoid straining the electric motor.

Avoid harsh accelerations: Harsh accelerations can result in higher energy consumption. Try to start gently and gradually accelerate to reduce the load on the battery.

Maintain proper tire inflation pressure: Properly inflated tires reduce rolling resistance, which can help save energy and extend battery life.

Avoid unnecessary loads: Avoid carrying excessive or unnecessary loads on your e-bike, as this can increase energy consumption.

Optimize your route: Plan your route to avoid steep slopes and difficult terrain when possible, as this can increase the load on the battery.

Adjust electric assistance settings: Some electric bikes allow you to adjust electric assistance settings, such as maximum speed or assistance level. Adjust these settings according to your needs to save energy

Store the battery in good conditions

What other costs should you expect?

    The purchase price

The initial cost of an electric bike, from around €1,000 to €7,000 for the most high-end models, may seem high but you can benefit from state aid for the acquisition of a bike. electric.
