Rain, low temperatures, battery storage... here are our tips for protecting your electric skateboard and its battery in winter and ensuring maximum longevity.
Rain, low temperatures, battery storage… here are our tips for preparing for winter with your Elwing electric skateboard or longboard.
Your electric skateboard or longboard is afraid of humidity. It is advisable to avoid driving in the rain and on wet, frozen or snowy roads or terrain as much as possible. Even at low speeds, this can cause falls and damage your skateboard.
When riding on wet roads or in the rain, even at low speed, the grip with the rubber of the skateboard wheels is greatly reduced and the risk of falling is greater.
Water can damage your skateboard. If you still find yourself in this situation, here are some tips to avoid damage:
Check before each ride that the charging port cap on your skateboard is securely closed.
Once you arrive at your destination, wipe off the excess water with a cloth.
Allow the electric skateboard to dry before charging it.
NB: As a reminder, all damage due to water is not covered by the guarantee.
In winter, with low temperatures, the battery of your electric skateboard is heavily used and its autonomy can significantly decrease.
An outside temperature of 0°C can have an effect on your battery, causing it to lose up to 10% of autonomy and reducing the duration of your journeys.
Here are some tips for preserving your electric skateboard's battery life in cold weather:
Check that your battery charge rate is sufficient before embarking on a long journey.
Use a low assist mode .
To maximize its lifespan, it is important to recharge the battery of your electric skateboard regularly. Unlike some batteries, lithium batteries do not need to be completely discharged before being recharged.
If you do not want or cannot use your electric skateboard during this period and in cold weather, an alternative is available to you.
You can choose to store your skateboard battery.
Storing the battery of an electric skateboard is essential to maintain its performance, its autonomy and extend its lifespan.
How to properly store your electric skateboard battery in winter?
If you plan not to use your Elwing skateboard for an extended period (more than a month), here are the best practices to follow for optimal use and ensure the longevity of your battery:
Remove the battery from your skateboard and charge it to 75% capacity before storing it.
Store the charged battery in a dry place at a temperature between 16 and 23°C. Electric skateboard batteries fear both heat and cold.
Take care to recharge your skateboard's battery approximately every month for 20 to 30 minutes to prevent it from completely discharging.
The remote control can be stored under the same conditions.
By following these storage and maintenance tips, you put all the chances on your side to ensure maximum longevity for your batteries. Your skateboard will be ready to use when you decide to hit the road again!
