If there is no legal framework for electric skateboards in your country, here are our recommendations:

Whenever possible, always ride on bicycle paths. Otherwise, follow the bicycle traffic. Do not ride on pavements faster than a walking pace. Avoid interfering with pedestrians.

Control your speed: Always be sure to ride at a speed you would be comfortable at without engines. Anticipate as much as possible: The faster you drive, the longer it takes to brake and stop. Anticipate the behavior of others, knowing that they may not anticipate yours.

Always give priority to others (pedestrians, bicycles, cars....): they may not have noticed that your skateboard is motorized and anticipate your movements. Wear protective equipment and make sure you are visible even in poor visibility (front and rear lights, reflective clothing).

France Decree # 2019-1082 concerning Personal Transport Equipment - including electric skateboards - was adopted. The practice of electric skateboarding in public places is now legal and supervised.

What are the rules for the rider?

You must ride on cycle tracks. If there are no cycle tracks, you can ride on :

On roads limited to 50 km/h In pedestrian areas, provided you drive at a moderate speed (6km/h) and do not hinder pedestrians.

Traffic on pavements is prohibited, unless authorized by the mayor. You can also drive on private roads

Parking on the pavement is permitted, provided that it does not obstruct pedestrians. However, the mayor may decide to prohibit it.

You must be at least 12 years old and drive at a maximum speed of 25 km/h. The vehicle may only carry one person at a time.

The rider must wear retro-reflective equipment at night or in case of insufficient visibility during the day.

The user must have liability insurance. This insurance covers damage caused to others (injuries to pedestrians, material damage to another vehicle, ....). It is recommended that you contact your insurance company to adapt your home insurance policy or to take out a specific insurance policy.

What are the rules concerning the vehicle? The rules relating to vehicles are currently being validated by the Central Standardization Committee (NF EN 17128).

From 1 July 2020, your board must be equipped with a braking system, a horn, front and rear lights and a front reflective device.

Although our current product advice (Nimbus and Halokee) exceeds 25Km/h, we recommend that you use headlights and reflective tape on your board and avoid using the fastest mode in public places. We make the necessary adaptations to ensure that the POWERKIT is compliant: It will be equipped with reflective devices, front and rear lights, a buzzer and will be limited to 25Km/h by construction. We will also propose additional equipment to adapt it to a competition use with maximized performances. This will make its use on public roads prohibited.

Denmark

Electric skateboards have been legal in Denmark since 1/1/2019. You must be over 15 years of age, wear headlights even during the day and ride at less than 20 km/hour.

Belgium Electric skateboards are legal and similar to Segways. The rules are the same as for bikes but you are limited to 20 Km/h.

Sweden

Electric skateboards are in the same category as bicycle skateboards.

United Kingdom Electric skates are currently not legislated. Electric scooters, Onewheels and Hoverboards are prohibited in public places.

Norway

Electric skateboards are in the bike category. You are limited to 20 km/h, you must wear light reflectors, a horn, and have brakes. You do not need any specific insurance.

Germany Electric skateboards are still banned in public places in Germany. The government is working on a regulation that may include electric skateboards in the coming months.

Spain

In Spain it depends on the rule of the city. For example, electric skateboards are allowed in Barcelona, which is a great place to ride a bike.

Italy Italy limits the speed of electric skateboards to 30 Km/h. They are allowed in pedestrian areas, pavements, roads and cycle paths as long as a city decides otherwise.

The Netherlands

Electric skateboards are currently banned in public places.
